Goodbye Saigon - Hello Cambodia...

After several days in Saigon and Ho Chi Minh
City, we said farewell to the lovely staff at the
Sanouva Hotel:

and headed to the airport for our flight to Siam
Reap in Cambodia.
To be honest, I was glad to leave Saigon behind.
Too hot, too humid, too noisy, too many people
and crossing the streets was a death- defying act!

Just a short flight over the border.

Hi Chi Minh airport:

Lots of lovely orchids - the envy of indoor gardeners!

I don't know if the good luck tree in the airport was
a good omen or not!

After a short flight.......

We landed in Siam Reap, Kingdon of Cambodia....

And, if I thought Saigon was hot, when we got
off the plane in Siam Reap, the temp. was 34 deg.C
and the humidity was even higher!!

Going through Customs and getting our Cambodian
visas was an experience in itself - more later.....
But, it was worth it, as this is where we ended up
for the next few days:

The Pacific Hotel in Siam Reap:

Every home and business, both in Cambodia and Vietnam, have
one of these shrines tucked away. At first I thought they were
ancestral shrines, but in fact they are shrines to the gods to invoke
prosperity upon the business and the home. Incense is lit daily
in front of the shrine and other gifts, flowers and fruits, are left
daily. It's interesting to walk into a store and find the shrine.

And if we thought the Vietnamese were friendly and
welcoming, the Cambodians were outstanding!

We were greeted with tropical fruit juices
before we headed to our room:

We met our fellow travellers on the patio:

And tried Singapore Slings:

They go down effortlessly in the heat!
Hi Alan and Pat from Glasgow!

We boarded a tuk-tuk to head downtown....

Lots of market stalls, eateries and tourists!

And these beautiful quilts, all hand- stitched...

I was VERY tempted!
I could have taken loads more pictures but it was
too hot and took too much effort!

But I couldn't resist this:

Lots of dead alligators outside stores selling handbags,
shoes and belts etc.
Ditto for Python goods - yuk - not my cup of tea at all.

And off to bed early as tomorrow we were heading
here:
